Queensland’s Hunter Lawrence led the Yamaha Junior Racing charge at the 2015 Australian Junior Motocross Championships last week in Bunbury, WA, with the blue crew taking home three championships, a second place and two thirds in a huge week of racing.
Hunter Lawrence went out of his final event as a junior competitor with a big bang, stamping his authority in the 15 years class and clearly the star of the week. Lawrence simply dominated proceedings from the minute the bikes hit the track, taking the fastest lap times in qualifying and then turned it up a notch when racing began.
Lawrence won all 10 motos he contested during the week, making it a clean sweep of the 15 years 125cc and the 15 years 250cc and it was poetry in motion as he finessed his way around the rough, sandy and challenging Bunbury circuit.
Arguably his finest ride came in race two on his YZ250F when he was leading the race on the opening lap but fell as he miscued some ruts and dropped way down the 38 rider field. In one lap he bounced back to 11th, the next lap he was in third, the following lap he was in front and by the time the 12 minute race was over, he was 20 seconds in front.
